For 20 years, Jan-Ru Wan has been re-using found objects, especially those that have been discarded from industrial factories, in her sculpture/installation work thereby re-inventing their purpose. In the past 20 years, she has participated in 24 solo exhibitions and 44 group exhibitions, and award for three major artist residencies; both national and international. As an artist, Wan is exceptionally strong conceptually and is sensitive to the mixing of materials to maximize their ability to evoke emotion and response through her sculptural form, and site-specific work. In 2006, she was recognized by the Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) awarded by the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Most recent award for Wan is the recipient of 2008 North Carolina Visual Art Fellowship.
