SHIMMER: The Art of Light is a free, annual one-night event founded, planned and managed by smArts creative programs & events in 2015 and happening for its first year in February 2016. The event covers a 5 block radius around the border between Chapel Hill and Carrboro, NC and features art with light as a primary component – illuminated art installations, projections, performance art, programmatic components – in interior and exterior spaces. Acting as a catalyst for joint efforts in both Chapel Hill and Carrboro to create Arts & Entertainment Districts, SHIMMER is the first collaborative event of its kind, taking place on a 2nd Friday ArtWalk and turning the area into a de facto art gallery.

SHIMMER is a compelling, impactful event that creates a cultural bridge between Chapel Hill and Carrboro, focusing on the creativity of our region, and impacting the economies of both towns. The event will span from Robeson St in Chapel Hill to Artscenter in Carrboro and bring visitors from throughout the Triangle and beyond. With a draw outside of the region, SHIMMER will produce a positive economic impact on local hotels, restaurants, and retail businesses around the event footprint.
